Without Sara present at my labor, I wouldn’t have had the birth that I had hoped for. She is worth her weight in gold and I highly recommend her.
I was originally planning for an unmedicated birth, but when my water broke unexpectedly and labor didn’t start on its own, I learned I would need to be induced. Sara was there from the beginning to quell my fears, answer my questions, and walk me through what my OB team was thinking. After many hours of unmedicated labor and pushing, my OB came in and strongly suggested I have a c-section since the clock was ticking on my water being broken, and because I had pushed for 3 hours and my baby hadn’t been born yet. My husband and I were scared, and I could barely think straight between the strong pitocin contractions. I’ll never forget Sara taking us aside and saying that she’d support us if we chose a c section, but (knowing where my heart was) asked if I felt at peace with that. She suggested I could put off a c section since, importantly, I did not have a fever and my baby was showing no signs of distress. My husband and I agreed we’d be willing to try something else before resorting to surgery. She then asked my OB if I could take an epidural to rest for an hour or two, then try pushing again. My OB agreed! After resting with the epidural, Sara helped me get into new positions to help move baby down. I pushed for another hour and baby was born healthy!
I’m so grateful Sara was there to advocate for me. Without her I would’ve reluctantly and frighteningly agreed to a c-section, when it wasn’t necessary in my case. I also can’t express enough how wonderful it was to have her there during the long pushing phase - she was always so encouraging and knowledgeable about different positions to try.
Also, she got great photos of the birth and first moments we had with our baby - we’ll always cherish those fondly.
