Laura was incredibly helpful throughout the entire prenatal and postpartum journey with our first child. Before Waverly was born, we attended her free pelvic floor and pregnancy exercises virtual course which we found to be super helpful. We also consulted with Laura to determine if we should consider a home birth. She provided objective pros/cons, as well as referrals to reputable homebirth midwives. Laura also provided us with information on pregnancy and birth classes and was able to give us a discount for the virtual courses. We appreciated that she visited our home and got to know me and Alex before we shared the experience of child birth with her. That made us so much more comfortable heading into labor.
I appreciated how Laura helped me figure out my labor preferences and birth plan. She asked many questions that got me thinking about what wanted during labor. During labor, she was communicative with my husband, arrived exactly when she said she would (even at 1AM!), respected my labor preferences, and created a calming environment. Laura provided counterpressure and comforting/encouraging words and she protected the space by being quiet and attentive. Laura encouraged Alex to take breaks, naps, and eat.
She also consulted with us on whether or not to be induced when things were slowing down. Despite intense kidney pain (due to hydronephrosis) during labor, Laura encouraged me to move into different positions to progress labor after I seemed to have stalled. Taking that action, despite my resistance, is what brought me from 4 cm to 9 cm in just two hours! I am so grateful to her for that because it meant I no longer needed to consider induction. If it weren't for Laura's support and guidance, my desire for an unmedicated birth may not have happened.
Laura also checked in often postpartum to see how we were doing, provide encouragement, and stop by to see us! We highly recommend Laura to every new mom!
