My birth experience was better than I could have imagined and I owe that to Chantell! She made me feel safe, calm and comforted. Not only was she a great addition for me, but she also was a helpful coach to my husband through everything. The whole process can be overwhelming when it’s your first baby. Chantell’s professionalism and warmth eased my stress. Having someone else in the room with prior delivery experience, but that was advocating for me and my needs, was so important to the positive emotional outcome. I shared my fears concerning the black maternal mortality rate in our initial conversations and she helped put my anxiety at ease and prepared us before the delivery for any possible interventions, so when the nurses and doctors asked me questions I felt like I was able to make informed decisions about what was best for me and the baby. My mom passed away in 2022 and I was sad to not have her in the room with me but Chantell felt like the next best thing! She has nurturing, mother-energy that made me feel safe and supported. We went through breathing techniques that help me feel prepared for the actual delivery. There was a point when the pain was unbearable and I didn’t think I could do it but her encouraging words and massage helped me through the toughest parts. We practiced pushing positions ahead of time so I was able to find the perfect one on for me and found the whole experience a lot more pleasant than I was expecting! After our sweet girl was born, the labor and delivery nurse commented that Chantell was one of the best Doulas that she’s ever worked with and that she was so calm and encouraging and treated me like a family member. Chantell also visited us during the postpartum period to check in and answer questions. She even taught us some burping techniques to help settle her stomach which turned out to be a life-saver. Chantell will definitely be part of our next birth story!
