We had a really mixed experience with Jet City Doulas. The birthing class that Katie led was so helpful and informative - would recommend this to everyone! Mariah was always a steadfast voice of support, validation and information as well. The class on pain management and the TENS unit was another great step to help us feel prepared. As an LC, Jen was phenomenal pre and post baby. I would recommend her as an LC. From flange fitting, all things pump related, BFing, even took extra time with us when appointments ran over and we had more questions. She really went the extra mile as an LC.Unfortunately I had a deeply traumatic birth experience (reviewed on Jen's individual page), not because of medical complications, but because providers did not act with trauma informed care, nor did Jen advocate for me when I was crying and needed her the most, or educate my spouse and I on next steps when things started to go downhill. There was also a large miscommunication with her arrival time to the hospital -if you go ahead with this team, don't assume anything, call and tell them when you need them there.During a final intervention before C-section, Jen slept instead of preparing us for what was to come. So hours later when a C Section was called, I was clueless and scared as to what expect. A separate time, I had to let all the providers present have their hands inside me and prove to them I knew what muscles to use to push. It was deeply humiliating and at no time did Jen say I didn't have to do that (my midwife, who wasn't in the room then, later told me I could have refused). As a first time mom, I didn't know all the things we could or could not have refused or gone with- that's why we hired a doula.I would not be able to recommend them to anyone- people deserve to feel safe, empowered, and advocated for when birthing and we were not.
