I had a wonderful experience with Catholine! The only issue was that I didn't utilize her more! As a first time mama I thought I knew what a doula was but i definitely didn't know the extent of the care I had access to.
I had very long and painful early labor and Catholine showed up and helped me immensely by rocking my hips, tens machine, and other laboring techniques.
I was telling my husband "i couldn't do it and I want the drugs" but when she showed up and equipped me with laboring tools and encouraged me, I felt like a new woman going into labor.
while at the hospital she was kind, attentive, and nurturing to me. My favorite thing Catholine did was include my husband in the whole process. She jokingly teased him in moments we needed a laugh. She knows how to read a room and where she is needed in that room, figuratively and literally!
Practically she gave me laboring tools for early labor, spoke up for me and got me into a room early, helped me progress from 5cm-10cm in about 5 hours. While in active labor she instructed and encouraged both my husband and I. Gave me drinks, cold compresses, I think a comb at one point, Etc. She even took photos and I am extremely thankful she did! I had a beautiful natural birth with minimal tearing.
Lastly, at one point I went to the bathroom and labored for a while and I overheard more of Catholine's story, as she was sharing with my husband and I was Impressed and Inspired. She became a part of our little family for those three beautifully tough days.
I plan on having her be my doula for future births.
