Cece was instrumental in helping me make informed decisions during my first pregnancy. She provided me with research, anecdotes, and questions for my OB that empowered me to make my own informed decision. My son was measuring large at a 3rd tri scan, and she helped me navigate decisions around this. Prior to birth, she came to our house and spent 2 hrs going over the stages of labor & answering questions. I could tell that her intent at this meeting was to deeply understand what my vision was for our birth. When labor started for me, she was calm. She then helped me labor at home for hours, guiding me into different positions to move labor along. Every time I moved into a new position, there was progress. I am certain that she helped speed up my labor. At the hospital, she put up twinkling lights, diffused essential oils, etc. transforming the space into calm environment. She distributed copies of my birth plan and spoke to hospital staff on my behalf. My husband could focus on me knowing that she was there to ensure our wishes were met. Cece has the perfect disposition as a doula: she is calm and soft spoken, but assertive and professional with hospital staff. Cece then visited for the postpartum visit. It felt like a visit from a friend. She helped clean up a mess in the nursery, offered support with breastfeeding, and answered other miscellaneous questions. Second pregnancy /birth: Again, Cece was a huge support, helping me find a provider who was a good fit. My birth was unusual - an unexpected car birth. She switched gears for us, meeting us at the hospital since I was transported there via ambulance. I was immensely grateful for her advocacy there. I was in such shock from the birth that I had limited capacity to speak up for myself. Without her there, I would likely have consented to interventions I was not comfortable with. I am SO glad that I decided to use her as my doula for my second birth.
