My husband and I worked with Shamika as our birth doula and we would choose to work with her 10/10 times if given the opportunity! From the very first call, I felt instantly at ease - I knew this was the person I wanted with me through the birthing process. In the weeks leading up to my due date, Shamika was a fantastic resource. She would send us helpful tips, blog posts, and videos to help prepare. She checked in, and it was evident she cared about us and wanted to help make this experience as positive as possible. I ended up going into labor 2 weeks early, on the day before we had our scheduled in-home prenatal visit. When I told her my water had broken, she wasted no time hopping on FaceTime to walk me through breathing techniques, getting my pump set up, and preparing to go to the hospital. Once at the hospital, labor progressed quickly, and Shamika rushed to be there with us. We were so glad she was able to make it in time, as she was a critical part of the actual laboring process. She kept asking what I wanted and would advocate for me to the nurses and doctors. She made sure my husband and I had a good understanding of everything that was happening, which was SO helpful as it is very difficult to fully digest all of the information being thrown at you during such an overwhelming time.

After I gave birth, Shamika stayed with us for a few hours to help us get settled. She has a wealth of knowledge to pass along, and we were so lucky to have her with us and our son in those early hours. We were sad to see her go, and were truly excited when we had our postpartum visit with her a few days later - it was like seeing an old friend again. In the weeks since giving birth, Shamika has continued to check in and provide us with resources. We would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone looking for a birth doula that will support you, pump you up, and help make the process as smooth as possible.
