I'm so grateful to have had Gio by our side for the birth of our second child. While it is an investment, we truly felt it was worth every penny.
The knowledge Gio imparted and questions she asked during pregnancy helped my partner and I get on the same page. Her calming presence and clear advocacy helped guide us through delivery and birth. And last but not least her realness and compassion met our postpartum needs well.
I was never led to fill ashamed or silly for a question I had or decision I was making. She truly met us where we were. We felt more comfortable in a hospital setting and Gio did a great job communicating the pros/cons/neutrals of that option.
For my spouse and I it was important to have a familiar face supporting us on delivery day. Modern medicine and the insurance driven healthcare model often leaves parents birthing without their primary OB present. This never settled well with me (I can be slow to warm up and appreciate having a built up relationship to lean into) so it felt essential to know that even if my OB couldn't make the birth Gio would be there by our side, speaking up for our birth plan. She also brought aids to the birth that I didn't think would be helpful for me but I ultimately ended up using a ton! For example: I knew many birthing persons find gripping a comb to be a source of relief. I thought that was a creative option but not something I'd find value in. I was wrong! I'll never look at a comb the same away again. I held that thing like it was my security blanket. All this to say, having someome in your court offering you options in moments of pain is invaluable.
Gio has been a source of knowledge, humor, advocacy, strength, creativity, and kindness. I'm not having another child but if I were I'd hire her again in a heartbeat!
