I could not have dreamed up a better midwife than Vanessa Lewis. She radiates warmth from your very first meeting, and treats her clients with such kindness, attention, and respect (even in small ways like confirming consent before any examination—which can feel lacking in OB offices).
Though challenging like any labor, God worked through my home birth and the care I received from Trinity Midwifery to help heal my nervous system a little more. I received truly restorative care:
In the calm and attentive presences of Vanessa, Joyce, and Samantha during my labor.
In the informed consent model of care during my prenatal appointments, empowering me to research and make the best decision for me and my baby, as well as working with me on options when complications (or potential complications) arose.
In the careful questions each visit about every aspect of our (mom-baby unit)’s health, opening my mind to what it meant to care for myself and my baby (shoutout to papaya enzymes, collagen powder, magnesium lotion, hip circles, consistent walks, breathing exercises, and positive birth stories / mindset).
Vanessa masterfully caught my 10lb baby at home, unlooped the nuchal chord, and then calmly walked me through my postpartum complications and went with me to the hospital as my doula, seeing me through treatment and all the way until baby and I were safely back tucked in bed at home. On top of that, lactation support at home from Olivia and via text from Vanessa in those early days was a game changer for my breastfeeding success. I will forever be grateful for her support, and fondly recall her teaching me to swaddle my little one as the Trinity midwifery team swaddled me with care. I could not more highly recommended!
