We had the privilege of working with Whitney as our backup doula, and even though we had never met before, she immediately put us at ease. She jumped right in, introduced herself, and shared a little about her family and experience, which helped us feel comfortable during such an important moment.
Throughout labor, she was so attentive—monitoring the baby’s heart rate and my contractions while allowing my husband and me to rest. She even helped me into a Spinning Babies position during my nap to encourage baby into the best position for delivery. She also prepared me mentally in case a c-section became necessary (thankfully it wasn’t), which was incredibly reassuring.
When it came time to deliver, her support was invaluable. She reminded me to trust myself and not second-guess, and she physically supported me—holding my leg despite her own discomfort and later holding my hand as the staff worked to deliver my placenta. Her presence was steady, compassionate, and encouraging.
Whitney’s care didn’t stop at delivery. She came over for a postpartum visit, where she patiently answered all of our new-parent questions. She showed us how to better swaddle our baby, gave tips on how to manage feedings when our little one would fall asleep after just one breast, and even helped us check our car seat to ensure our baby was safely positioned.
Overall, we are deeply grateful to have had Whitney as our doula. She brought relief, knowledge, and comfort to both of us, and we’re so glad it worked out the way it did.
