Hiring Carolyn and the District Doulas team was one of the best decisions we made as first-time parents navigating our first pregnancy, delivery and postpartum experience.
They were with us every step of the way and were available to us to answer questions, offer evidence-based advice and guidance and talk through any concerns we had from the moment we started working with them. Carolyn was always respectful of our wishes and it was clear that her only agenda was to ensure that I had the birth experience that I wanted. Because of breech positioning, I had a planned c-section delivery. Even then Carolyn encouraged us to think through how we wanted the procedure to go and work through our birth plan. Then, when we had a fast-moving situation and had to decide whether to deliver the baby days earlier than scheduled, Carolyn was immediately available to talk through options and she was with us at the hospital before my procedure ended to provide lactation support. Carolyn was also so helpful to us postpartum - supporting us as first-time parents with things like giving the baby her first bath and learning how to use various baby carriers. She continued to check-in on us via text during the first few weeks after birth.
It's important to specifically call out that my partner felt he was able to support me better in my pregnancy and birth journey by having Carolyn to depend on for experience- and evidence-based advice, especially when he felt overwhelmed or ill equipped. He saw Carolyn as a resource for him, not just for me, since with her help he could prepare for how and when it was important for him to step in, and what kind of support he needed to provide at that moment. Being the support person had its own challenges, and working with Carolyn helped ease him into the role.
Overally, we had an amazing experience working with Carolyn and the team, and we can't recommend them more highly!
