2000 characters is not enough to share Kate's praises. To say that she was an integral part of our postpartum season for my entire family is an understatement. From our visit when she came into our home to our preterm baby, the immediate pp period, and even now, we look to our experience and her face will always be a part of our family experience, one of the people who got us through our hardest days, and the smiling face alongside us in some of our happiest memories. Kate was in contact from when we signed the contract, she was a kind encourager through our unexpected early delivery, the challenges that come with that, and his hospital discharge (in the midst of a historic snowstorm). Once we got home, I am not sure what we would have done without her. As a pediatric healthcare provider I was sure I knew how to do the first days/weeks at home, but when you are the mom recovering, dealing with hormones, and figuring out the new day to day is a very different beast. We thought that we were hiring her to care for our sweet baby, but she cared for an empowered us and showed us that we were exactly who our baby needed. The most delicious meals (sometimes from very few ingedients), answers to questions, so much validation, endless encouragement, and very practical hands on assistance, Kate does it all.
When an unexpected crisis came to our family that broke our hearts and took us out of Houston, Kate was still there. I remember crying on the phone to her and being reminded that I was the amazing mom my sweet boy needed. When we felt like we were being swallowed and life was going on without us, her name popping across our phone reminded us that we would come out of this.
Our boy is 8 months old and I still think of Kate all the time. She was a precious gift to me, my husband, and our son. The services she offered went above and beyond, she is truly a God sent gift for the incredibly vulnerable and sacred season.
