I wholeheartedly recommend Shamika to any couples seeking a doula. My wife and I worked with her for the birth of our first child, and I don't know what we would've done without her. There are many things I appreciated about her approach: (1) she's easy to get along with which is important given the gravity of the situation, especially if either or both parents are more anxious (2) she's a clear communicator (3) she's caring, composed, and firm, which was critical when the delivery was taking much longer than what my wife and I expected. We were getting increasingly nervous about my wife's uncomfortability after the epidural, and I was getting increasingly worried about not knowing what to say or do to be as supportive as possible when my wife was going through her labor pains. Shamika helped advocate to the doctors and nurses on our behalf when we didn't know exactly what to ask for. This was especially important to us as a Black couple (4) selfishly, she cares about the non-birthing partners too. Obviously, my wife is doing 99.9% of the work, but it's an important time for both parents. She looked out for me and made sure I had the support I needed too.
We didn't know exactly what to expect during our birthing process, and I'm so glad we had her.
