We had a wonderful experience working with Laurie as our birth doula. From our initial meeting, she brought a calm, confident presence and a wealth of knowledge that helped us feel prepared and supported. Close to our due date we had a growth ultrasound that showed our baby may be at risk for shoulder distocia. This made us re-evaluate our birth plan, considering a planned c-section if we went too far past our due date. Laurie was able to walk us through the pros/cons of different options, giving us lots of information but not prescribing our decision for us. In the end, we had a natural birth that went about as smooth as we could have hoped, but having an alternate plan put our mind at ease in the days leading up.
During labor, Laurie provided steady, hands-on support and worked smoothy with the rest of our care team. She anticipated our needs, and reassured us throughout. Having an additional support person in the room with us throughout labor and delivery was a huge help. Laurie also followed up with a postpartum visit (and a lovely massage for mom!) which was a huge help in the hectic first week home. Laurie is deeply committed to her work, and it shows in every interaction. We’re very grateful to have had her as part of our birth experience.
