WOW. I am so grateful for Scarlett! Our doula was heading out of town right when I went into labor, so Scarlett stepped in, and she was exactly the person I needed to help me navigate a long and difficult labor. She came to our home on day two of labor, when I was already exhausted, and her gentle touch brought me so much relief and comfort. My husband and I took all the classes in advance to prepare for labor, but when the time came, it was challenging to remember everything we learned! Having Scarlett there to help us figure out what to do was a lifesaver.
Scarlett supported my decisions and advocated for my preferences every step of the way. By the time we got to the hospital, I was way too tired to advocate for myself, and it meant the world to me to look up from the hospital bed and realize she had already taken care of everything. She stayed by my side all through the night, helping me breathe through contractions even when she was sleep deprived and exhausted too. I was hoping for minimal interventions, and it was hard to accept when I needed more, but her support helped me move through those decisions. She prepared me for potential outcomes in advance, making sure I had time to emotionally process potential changes to my birth plan. And when it finally came time to push, she was locked in and ready!
I especially appreciate her thorough note-taking! It was so fun to read through the details, so many of which I’d forgotten. She even wrote down funny things I’d said. And of course, the pictures she took immediately after the birth are so special, I’m so glad we have those memories captured.
If we decide to get pregnant again, Scarlett will be the first person we call!
