Riva was an incredible doula! My husband and I called her at about 4 am when contractions became closer together and more intense. She calmly talked me through breathing and told us she would get ready and be right over. At our home, she supported me with different positions and breathing to manage the intense back labor. At the birth center, I was already 10 cm dilated! I pushed for 2.5 hours, and she stayed with us the whole time. Her voice remained calm reminding me “you’re doing a beautiful job” and “to send my breath down to my baby.” My husband gave Riva my phone, and she took over 100 photos to remember our baby’s birth! After the birth, she assisted our baby to latch and nurse, prepared electrolyte water and snacks, and allowed space for our families to visit. She is an expert on breastfeeding; she promptly responded to my questions via text and visited our home postpartum to provide hands on assistance with breastfeeding and pumping. I am very thankful we decided to hire Riva! Her presence removed some of the stress and uncertainty that came with labor and delivery of our first baby.
