Mel was the PERFECT doula for us. My spouse is trans nonbinary, and we knew how crucial a queer-affirming doula would be, but that was only the beginning of Mel's amazing support for us. Throughout the twist and turns of being turned away by our local birth center at 20 weeks and pivoting to a home birth, to the labor itself, Mel was able to offer critical wisdom and presence while also giving my spouse and I the full freedom to make our own decisions. Because of Mel's support, we always felt informed and cared for as we made our way through the labyrinth of pregnancy and birth!
Mel's best quality as a doula is their communication and reliability. They offer unlimited text support, and we took full advantage because we knew that Mel could prioritize their needs, other clients, and us. We never felt like a question went unanswered, but we also saw as Mel took the time for clients with more pressing needs first, which helped us know that we would be fully supported as the baby got closer.
We were also touched by the personal care and flexibility that Mel offered. We wanted limited photos and no video, and Mel was able to match our desires in this respect perfectly. We cherish the intimate photos we received without feeling like there were too many cameras or pictures of private moments. Mel worked with us to help meet my spouses sensory needs as an autistic birth-giver.
Lastly, my very subjective experience of being a spouse was greatly enhanced by Mel's support. Never once did I feel dismissed or belittled, even as we both sought to put my spouse first. I felt fully invited into the process of being a supportive spouse and Mel also helped meet MY needs so I could be present for my spouse.
I cannot recommend Mel highly enough!
