Testimonial for Naima Bond

When I got pregnant, it was very important to me to have not only a doula, but a Black doula. I needed someone who understood the reality of Black women and babies having a higher mortality rate at birth.

Naima made sure both me and my husband felt supported and comfortable my entire pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. She answered our questions, she listened to our desires and dreams, she helped us create our birth preferences. During labor she provided the best counter pressure, showed my husband how to support me physically, she set the mood in the room with dim lights and essential oils. I didn't have to worry about the nurses asking me about an epidural because she made it clear to them I didn't want one (lol). She encouraged me as I pushed, checked my placenta to make sure it was fully out, she hugged me and quietly slipped away and let us take in our first moments has a new family.

My husband said two things stand out to him: when he called her to let her know I was in labor he could hear the excitement in her voice as she told us to head to the hospital and the hug she gave him after we welcomed our daughter.

Naima is family to us. I could go on and on about her but her spirit is so full of joy and love. Being a doula is so much more than a profession to her. It's a labor of love that she does so joyfully. I'm so thankful she was apart of our birth story. It was the most perfect day because of the role she played.
