Hiring Sarah to be our doula was the best decision we made during our pregnancy. From the first consultation call through the postpartum period, she was a guiding light for us. She coached us through several weeks of prodromal labor, which kept us from needlessly showing up at the hospital too soon. She checked in multiple times daily and was on her way to our house at a moment’s notice when my wife’s contraction pattern came on very strong after taking castor oil. Her calming presence and suggestions ensured we could labor in the comfort of our home for far longer than we would have without her. Once at the hospital, it was Sarah who recommended that my wife do lunges in the tub to help our daughter move down into the right position so my wife could begin pushing. While providing nonstop support, Sarah was also documenting the labor and birth so we could look back at photos and videos of that special day. After our daughter was born in the middle of the night, Sarah stayed for hours to facilitate the initial breastfeeding and make sure we had everything we needed. Beyond the birth, she checked in daily in those critical first days at home, and throughout the weeks that followed. She recommended an at-home lactation support specialist when our daughter was having trouble latching. I could go on. Sarah’s expertise and reassurance helped us in ways we could have never known we even needed. The confidence and security she gave us throughout the process made the most important day of our lives as joyous as possible.
