We met Rebecca during labor(!) because baby girl was a week late, our planned doula was out of town, and she came highly recommended by her. In hindsight it was definitely meant to be! She was a proactive, prompt, and supportive communicator over text when I began showing signs of early labor and began active labor. She assigned me a great evening routine to get contractions picking up, and continued checking in with me throughout the day and evening.
As things picked up, I called her and her voice was so compassionate. She arrived at our home in perfect timing and also made the right judgement call of when it was time to go to the hospital (1st time mom here, so very grateful for that!). She even drove us to the hospital because my husband was on crutches (that’s another story lol).
Rebecca has a realm of calm, kindness, peace, and respect for birthing about her that immediately filled our home when she arrived. She was proactive at suggesting comfort measures for me (aromatherapy, offering herself to be leaned on, etc), which I appreciated. She was also a proactive advocate for us in the hospital and managed to get into our labor and delivery room before we did, filling the tub without being asked.
Of course every birth has so many things outside of anyone’s control, but my labor experience was far more positive than I anticipated. I attribute a great deal of the success at meeting my birthing goals to Rebecca’s support and presence.
