As a first-time SMBC I knew I wanted someone with me during my child's birth to be my advocate in the room. I was so excited to meet Haley and was so appreciative of her medical background, warmth and overall approach to the birthing process. Haley was easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable asking any question throughout pregnancy! My situation shifted when I found out early that I would have to have a c-section. Initially, I wondered if I would still need a doula as much as with a c-section, but quickly found that there was still a lot to navigate! Prior to the c-section Haley explained medical decisions that I could make and we talked through different senerios based on my own medical history. Once again, I faced an unexpected shift when my hospital's NICU was closed which scared me, knowing my baby would likely be a late-term preemie, because of my medical condition. With all the changing factors throughout my pregnancy, Haley was such an amazing and constant support; I knew that regardless of what happened, my baby and I would have a knowledgeable advocate at our side. Haley was such a wonderful presence in the operating room; explaining what was going on beforehand, during and afterwards. Even with all the unknowns and change of plans, I ended up having a wonderful, empowering (fun!) birth experience and I am so grateful for Haley!
