Initially, I had no interest in working with a doula. I mistakenly believed that doulas were only for people who distrusted the medical system, were dead-set on an unmediated birth, or planned to deliver outside of a hospital. I am so, so grateful my husband nudged me to educate myself and at least try meeting some doulas. Shannon was an exceptional support and source of knowledge throughout our journey. She helped me make difficult decisions with my goals in mind--without her calm, gentle guidance, I think I may have waited too long to go in and get an augmentation. She worked exceptionally well with the medical staff at the hospital, and she made the biggest personal and medical experience of my life feel manageable. Beyond her deep expertise, Shannon exudes warmth and strengh, and she is clearly a an extremely good person. I'm grateful that she was one of the first people to welcome my daughter to the world.
