I found Vicki in my third trimester. I had set up several interviews with other doulas, Vicki was the first doula I interviewed. Upon interviewing the second, I immediately cancelled all other interviews because it was evident to me that Vicki was the one. From our initial meeting with all the confidence and knowledge she exuded, I felt safe and knew I was in good hands.
Baby came 6 weeks early so we only got to have one prenatal meeting prior to birth. During that meeting she outlined absolutely everything and gave me all the tools I needed to envision, prepare and map out my ideal birth. I always wanted a natural birth but also was open to accept whatever interventions were medically necessary for me and my baby.
When baby broke my water in the middle of the night, I got a hold of Vicki and we were at the hospital together by 6am. All the hospital staff thought i wouldn’t deliver til the next day, but baby came 5 hours later. Vicki was there by my side to comfort me through my fast labor and rally all the nurses while advocating for me as I was becoming more dilated rather quickly. Had she not been with me, I’m not sure I would have been able to decipher what exactly was going on at each point in labor or communicate my readiness with the staff. I believe it’s because I had Vicki I didn’t have to ask for an epidural or endure any other interventions and was able to have the natural birth I always envisioned- she kept me and my partner’s spirits and confidence up throughout my entire labor, making me comfortable every step of the way of my preterm labor.
We had Vicki over for a post birth follow up a few weeks later which we truly enjoyed. She answered a bunch of our questions and provided support in managing our new lives. If we get pregnant again, Vicki will undoubtedly be on my birth team again. She is so awesome, I can’t recommend her enough.
