I don't have enough words to describe my appreciation for Aubrey, our doula. With our first child, we didn't have a doula, and our birth experience was anything but magical. When we became pregnant with our second, we knew that we wanted to have a doula present for our birth, and God lead us to Aubrey. I think most people think that doulas are only if you want to try a drug-free natural labor, and that couldn't be farther for the truth. In our very first meeting, I was apprehensive to discussed that I was completely ok getting an epidural and using formula with our baby, in fear of "a doula's judgement or corrections", but Aubrey only had full understanding and support for my decisions. Aubrey met with me multiple times leading up to our due date to discuss pain management, how to progress labor, and things that my husband could do to be a better support partner. It was only through her support and guidance that I was able to labor at home for so long before going to the hospital and finding out that I was 8cm dilated, which made the entirety of the labor shorter and more comfortable. She gave guidance on different positions to help progress labor and most importantly, was my voice. She reminded the birthing team of my wishes that I had discussed with her prior to our delivery date and made sure that I wasn't convinced to stray from my birth plan wishes. Because of Aubrey, our birth was everything that I had wished for. And to this day, I watch the birthing video that she very kindly filmed for us.
