As first time parents, we knew very little about doulas, but decided to hire one after a friend recommended the idea...and hiring Sarah was the best money we've ever spent. Sarah was an absolutely invaluable source of support, advice, and comfort for my husband and I throughout the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum phases. She immediately alleviated my concerns whenever they (not infrequently) popped up, guided us through a tricky bout of prodromal labor, helped me labor at home for much longer than I ever thought I could, and continued being a source of support when I eventually received an epidural (as planned). She helped me feel confident to ask for rest at the hospital when I had the opportunity, and helped my husband navigate supporting me through the most challenging but most rewarding physical endeavor of my life... the pushing phase! During this phase, she collaborated with the medical team and us in helping manage a tricky and somewhat nerve-wracking situation, and I truly believe we would not have accomplished our goal of having a low intervention birth without her. Her calm presence, attention to detail, empathy, good humor, and passion truly helped make the birth of our child the best day of our lives!
