Tiffany was the perfect partner for me. Leading up to labor and delivery, she did a great job of listening to me, asking good questions, putting me at ease, and figuring out the right way to support me when the time came. I never felt rushed and was able to ask a lot of questions, which helped me understand how I'd approach different possible scenarios and know what my top priorities were for labor and delivery. I was aiming for an unmedicated birth at a hospital with a high epidural rate, and she helped me prepare and navigate that really gracefully. I felt supported but never obligated to stick with plan A if the situation called for plan B.
For my son's birth, I started having contractions a few days before my baby arrived, and she was always just a text away, even at 3 AM. She helped me gauge how fast things were progressing, when to try to rest and relax, and when to head for the hospital. She was at the hospital before I was even out of triage, and was very engaged in getting me drinks, coaching my husband, suggesting different positions, and deciding which interventions to go with.
The amazing thing is that she was also supporting another birth at the same time! Another client of hers, a first-time mom with a much longer labor, was down the hall in the hospital. So she had been up with me overnight the night before as I had contractions, then supporting her other client during the day while I rested, then she was back on with me when my labor ramped up after dinner, then after my delivery around 3 AM she went down the hall and helped with the home stretch of her other client. My husband went out for coffee after we'd had a post-delivery sleep and breakfast, and he saw her in the lobby, finally heading home hours later. If she hadn't mentioned this to me, I never would have known -- I felt completely supported the whole way through, and I had her full attention when I needed it. It was so impressive.
