A knowledgeable, Holy Spirit lead doula is essentia at birth! Things in labor can change and shift and it’s important to have one stable person who knows your wishes and advocates for you through out the entire process. Because my baby came little over 3 weeks early I couldn’t have her at a birthing center like I wanted. I also had a rapid labor, about an hour and a half long. Labor itself was not ‘ textbook predictable’. I was going to stay home until things became stable however I’m so glad that Albina sensed that I should call the midwives regardless. If I didn’t call when I did, I would have ended up having the baby in the car!
Albina rushed to the hospital to meet me. As soon as she walked in the room I immediately felt calmer amidst my intense contractions. She helped me breathe properly and because of her I mentally could get through to the very end. Albina advocated for all the things I truly wanted, I ended up having a natural unmedicated birthing center type of birth at the hospital. No interventions whatsoever. There were quite a few times when the medical staff wanted to do things their way and do it quickly and it would have not benefited baby or I. She stepped in firmly with her knowledge and did what I couldn’t do in the midst of intensity of labor. Having Albina there changed my whole birthing story into a beautiful one!
