Our birth experience was long, emotional, and far from what we had envisioned—it started with an induction and ended in an unplanned C-section. As first-time parents with a lot of anxiety, we often felt overwhelmed and unsure. Laurie was a steady, reassuring presence throughout it all.
From the very beginning, Laurie made us feel heard, informed, and supported. She met us with empathy, humor, and deep knowledge, both during our prenatal visits and in the most intense moments of labor. When our epidural failed, Laurie was right there, calmly helping us navigate next steps and offering comfort measures that made an enormous difference. She drew from her vast knowledge of techniques to try to reposition the baby when things weren’t progressing.
Most importantly, Laurie helped us stay grounded, made us feel safe, and was as much a support to my partner as she was to me.
Even though our labor didn’t unfold the way we hoped, having Laurie there helped us feel like we weren’t going through it alone. Her presence made an incredibly hard experience more manageable, and even meaningful. We can’t imagine doing it without her.
