Mel is an absolutely amazing doula! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate, evidence based care. They provided us, first time parents, with so much peace of mind which is absolutely invaluable in the pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum experience. They have a naturally warm and calming energy and offer lots of helpful resources in coping with various pregnancy symptoms and labor stages. We had a specific birth plan laid out, and although we knew not to be tied to a specific plan, Mel helped us execute our desired birth plan. They knew how to read our personalities and check in just the right amount without seeming overbearing or absent. We also attended their small group Birthing from Within Class at the Birth Center of Chicago (BCC), and found a great community. The class helped us prepare for delivering at the BCC. When my water broke spontaneously, and during early labor, they sat beside me and taught me relaxation techniques. I was able to labor at home for as long as possible as a first time mom, arriving at the BCC 10 cm dilated and ready to push due to their coaching. Once our child was born, their postpartum care visit and fourth trimester availability to answer our new parent questions was also invaluable.
