Ross rules. It was such a gift to have her come to my home in those first oh-so-vulnerable weeks after becoming a mom. She's kind, insightful, comforting, and reliable. She's also perceptive and great at identifying needs. I remember one day she walked in my front door, took one look at my exhausted face, and said, "You're sleeping the whole time I'm here." So I went to bed while she cared for my son for several hours; she would just pop in as needed for me to nurse him, then I'd go back to sleep. On other occasions, she would listen while I talked about feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or unsure. She'd provide advice or recommendations when appropriate—she showed me how to safely co-sleep, for instance, and helped me navigate a breast pump for the first time—but she'd also remind me that my feelings were valid. "You don't have to love this part," she told me once, referring to the fourth trimester. That was so helpful to hear! Other reasons Ross is great: She's funny, she makes delicious snacks, and she's quick to reply on text in between sessions if you need her. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a post-partum doula (which, in an ideal world, every new birth parent would have access to).
