(Continued from above) I don’t believe that we would have achieved our birth outcome without her. We were having concerns about our provider and her matching our birth plan. I remember leaving an OB appointment and telling my wife that we had to call Renee and discuss the visit with her. We ended up speaking to her later that night. We explained to Renee what we wanted out of a provider and she helped align us with an amazing doctor. She reassured us that it was not unusual to change providers even though we were later in the pregnancy than most people that made the change (36 weeks). Without her guidance we most likely wouldn’t have made the change.
My wife ending up having heavy contractions 13 days earlier than we expected. We called Renee at 6 am and she answered right away. She guided us what we should do and a few hours later we were at the hospital. Renee was right behind us and met us at the hospital as we were going in. Through the next 12 hours it was us and Renee. The hospital staff was amazing but Renee was our rock. She helped through the contractions with positioning and care. While we were in active labor and pushing we started to stall. Renee suggested bringing in a mirror so Camille could see the progress she was making with each push. It was the perfect suggestion at the perfect time. It helped her get through the big pushes and birth our beautiful baby boy. I have no doubt that there wasn’t another person that I would have wanted in the room with us.
If you are on the fence about hiring a doula, do it. If you are thinking about hiring Renee, you should have done it yesterday.
