Testimonial for Renée Pizzuto
When my wife asked me what I thought of us hiring a doula, I scoffed at her. “Why do we need another person involved in our journey? Isn’t that why we have a doctor?” Even after reading about what a doula does, I still wasn’t sold. I looked at the cost and wondered what we were getting for the price. I took a few days and thought about it. This was going to be a life changing event for our family and if a doula was going to add to her comfort throughout the process, I believed it was a good decision. I remember sitting down to fill out Renee’s questionnaire and not taking it seriously at first. Luckily I sent it to my wife to read. She urged me to take it more seriously. There was one question that I didn’t understand and stated so. Upon our first meeting Renee asked about it and how she could improve the question. My eyes lit up. I appreciated her attention to detail and that she cared about how I understood her questions. I don’t know if every doula is like Renee but let me tell you she is worth every penny as I will explain below.
Renee was so caring and attentive with us. Most of our sessions were about my wife, her progress, and her questions. But, at the end of each session Renee always made sure to ask how I am doing and about any questions or concerns I had. She made me feel heard and seen in a situation where I felt like I was going to be a bystander. Even after our son’s birth she followed up with us to make sure we were doing well. She was also ready to answer any questions we had whether it was after birth care or lactation questions.
