Sometimes, you just listen to the right podcast, search the internet, pick a few names out of a list, shoot off a quick email, and find the answer to your prayers. You don’t know it at the time, but that one small decision is life changing. The Birth Collective was this for my family, not once, but twice.
My first was breech, we didn’t find out until further along, C-Section was the last thing I wanted, but all three doulas were right there with answers to my questions. Although my baby never turned for me, they were there the whole way and pointed me to an absolutely amazing team for 2 failed ECV's and my cesarean. Sarah was there for us the day of, helping me through my nerves and making sure things went smoothly. Having someone with experience was such a relief and it helped to know she’d speak up if things went off course.
My second was a VBAC (woot!) and it escalated fairly quickly. I started with back labor and they walked me through things to help. Things were progressing quickly so I was advised to go the hospital right away. Sarah not only talked my husband off a ledge (lol), she had the labor and delivery midwives ready for us when we arrived, a wheelchair waiting for me outside, and got me upstairs stat. My first ended up being there (unplanned) as my in-laws were still on the way to pick him up. Sarah was there not only helping me, my husband, taking (the most incredible) pictures, but also helping make sure my 18 month old was content as well. She wore many hats that night and did it flawlessly.
Needless to say, I have no idea what I would have done without Sarah and TBC in both instances. Sarah is is not only is a great person, she is a badass doula, and an amazing photographer. I don’t know if there is anything a person can say or do to thank them enough for helping bring the two most important people in my world into this world safely. ??
