Carolynn is amazing! She met up with me a few times before my birth and helped me pack my birth bag, we discussed my birth goals and approach. I was able to message her when things started pointing twords labor and she came with me to one for my non-stress tests. I really enjoyed having that support. I was able to message her when I started getting painful contractions and she came to my house when I was unsure how to approach the pain. She offered guidance on how to keep things moving and manage the pain. She helped with the hip squeeze to counteract the back pain during contractions, she offered a Tens Unit and helped me try different positions to help get through them. She has a very calm and supportive but also upbeat presence and I felt very supported and less unsure of everything. She followed us to the birth center and helped advocate for me to the midwives about wanting to get into the tub and what temperature water I preferred (I was having a hard time conversing at this point) as well as advocating that I was staying hydrated when I wanted to decline the iv that was offered. She figured out how to set up my speaker with my music for me when we got and when I kept the same song on repeat and someone asked if they should change the song and she spoke up saying I had meant to put it on repeat. These little details made a huge difference.
She kept encouraging me to drink water and eat tiny snacks when I was completely in my own world.
after the delivery she stayed and kept giving me fluids and snacks. I was very out of it and kind of in shock after the delivery and she was the one who grounded me with her words and prayers and that helped me be able to be present and enjoy my baby.
I don't know what I would have done without her, she is an amazing support and an uplifting guidance to have. I definitely want to use her Doula service again with my next birth!
