Shamika worked with us as a postpartum doula and she was great! We had latch issues when our baby arrived so I ended up exclusively pumping, and Shamika was instrumental to me being able to eventually feed my baby all breastmilk. She showed me how to use my pump before giving birth which made me much more confident pumping in the hospital (after the lactation consultant recommended that I start pumping right away but didn't actually show me how to use the pump!). After coming home, she gave me super helpful advice for how to increase my supply, which was extremely effective and allowed me to feed my baby exclusively breastmilk within one month and even start a freezer stash. In general, Shamika was organized and communicative, and her approach was a great mix between structured and unstructured support. For example, during our first visit after coming home, she took me through a structured set of questions to help me emotionally process the birth which went differently than I originally envisioned. That was super helpful in that moment when I wouldn't have even known where to start. Then, in subsequent visits, she was totally open to doing whatever was most helpful for us, everything from washing bottle/pump parts to holding the baby when he would only contact nap to entertaining him so we could actually get his PT exercises done and so on. Definitely a great experience working with Shamika!
