I honestly cannot say enough good things about my experience with Jenn. 4 months before my baby was born my mom unexpectedly passed away. EVERYTHING changed; my mother was the pillar of my birthing plan and I was both terrified and full of unimaginable sadness thinking about the birth of my daughter- something that should've filled me with joy was now a thing of dread. Then in stepped Jenn. I never considered a doula before, doula was not even in my vocabulary; but at the suggestion of my grief therapist I agreed to meet with Jenn. She was instantly warm and felt safe and inviting easing my fears straight away. She was sympathetic to my concerns, my situation and knowledgeable on things I didn't even know I should be knowledgeable on (especially considering this was my second child). She was patient with my endless questions/fears and quickly became a haven I could turn to when pregnancy hiccups scared me like gestational diabetes or spotting. When the count down came for when the baby would come, Jenn would check in daily to see how I was and if it was "time". I was induced which is a long process to when baby would come, normally a Doula comes when you're in Labor and Delivery but because I was so scared Jenn eased my fears "call me when you want me to come to the hospital and I'll be there and I will stay through induction all the way to delivery" (because that was my late mother's role in my pregnancy plan.) in delivery Jenn spoke up for me to nursing when I was too tired to speak up; she held my hand when I wept with sadness missing my mom and helped wipe the tears of joy when they placed my daughter in my arms. Even in the weeks to follow Jenn checked in daily to make sure me and baby were well. I was afraid when I lost my mom that my pregnancy and birth lost the joy and light it should've had, but Jenn brought a soft light to illuminate the dark spaces; and while she isn't my mom - she was a damn good substitute for her.
