When we ended up with a surprise induction and hospital birth due to preeclampsia, Gio helped us navigate each stage of induction, she also initiated and facilitated challenging conversations with the nurses and doctor in order for us to maintain our preferences and parts of the brith that felt important. Such as moving around while laboring (which required a cordless baby monitor), laboring with my partner on the bed with me, having a two step delivery if possible, receiving my baby myself, keeping the umbilical cord uncut and placenta attached until we were settled after the birth, having the room quiet so me and my partners voices were the first things our baby heard when she was born.
Gio confidently and competently guided and supported us through what could have been a traumatic birth, and helped me preserve my autonomy so I felt empowered every step of the way! My partner also felt super supported in his needs and with how he was able to be such an important part of our birth. On top of all that Gio was able to capture the magic of the birth on film, while minimizing the sterile/medical feel. When I look through the photos I remember the power and magic of laboring/birthing our daughter. I will be forever cherish the photos and the roll Gio played in our birth.
