Through my pregnancy Kayla was aware of my appointments and how we were doing. I can say that if I needed anything, she would be available any time. She even helped in times when I thought I was going into labor and as a first time mom, this immediate help was invaluable. Some weeks before my scheduled induction, she came to my home to see me and to help me make a birth plan. She didn't push one way or another. She simply listened, helped educate me, and empowered me to make informed decisions. When it was time for me to give birth, she brought her bag of tricks and was ready for the show. She brought things I asked for, she set the mood and made me feel comfortable. She exceeded my expectations in this area. She had motivational cards- I still say mine to this day- "This is hard. And I'm doing great". I'll never forget that. She also prayed with me and for me. When I needed something and it wasn't taken care of, she helped me advocate for myself. When I couldn't, she reminded the nurses of what I needed. She put up fairy lights, had the essential oils going and music set up. When I was in pain, she quickly got to work. She helped me with stretching, applying pressure and using the ball. She also taught my husband some ways in which he could help me. When I was giving birth, her touch was the one I remember most, and not my husband's. Her hands held mine and her words carried me into receiving my bundle of joy into my chest. She was supportive, intuitive, loving and nurturing. In summary, Kayla made the experience of my first birth a magical one. Aside from taking away my physical pain (which she would have done if she could) she did everything imaginable. She also documented the process for us so that we could be completely immersed in the experience as first time parents. After I gave birth she came to visit a few times to check on us and help in any way. We were blessed with Kayla and I'm ever pregnant again, I hope she'll be part of it as well.
