It was a dream to work with Kayla. From our first meeting, I felt that she was attuned to my wishes for my labor experience. Over the course of my pregnancy, she marshalled her knowledge, experience, intuition, and community connections to make those wishes a reality. She not only created a strong connection with me but also with my partner, and ensured my partner had a rich role in the process of preparing for and actualizing the birth of my first child. As first time parents, throughout my pregnancy, we had a number of questions and anxieties arise. She tended to every question or worry of ours patiently. At the birth, she was a godsend. The positions she guided me through helped my labor progress, and she gave me the strength to stick to my birth preferences in the face of pressures to do otherwise. She held the space beautifully throughout, and assured me when unexpected challenges interrupted the experience. I will always be grateful to her for helping me welcome my son in the manner I was hoping to. A closing ceremony she conducted for me in the postpartum period was truly moving. She is wonderfully gifted in both the home and hospital setting, and I am grateful we benefited from her many gifts as a doula.
