To those on the fence about hiring a doula—do it. Especially with Midwest Doulas. We had the incredible fortune of working with Justine, and I can’t imagine going through the experience without her. I came in determined to be the best birth partner I could be— I read the books, took the classes, and felt confident in our birth plan. So I often wondered if a doula might be overkill. It wasn't.
From the start, the Midwest Doulas team was warm, knowledgeable, and professional. Justine stood out— her calm presence, experience, and clear communication made us feel immediately at ease. By the time labor began, we felt reassured knowing she was just a call away. And we needed her. My wife endured 45 hours of back labor— 20 of those at home and in triage— with me doing everything I could: counter-pressure, repositioning, nonstop support. I’m in shape, but nothing could have prepared me for the physical and emotional toll. I didn’t want to take my eyes off her, but I was burning out.
When Justine arrived, everything changed. She knew exactly what to do without being asked. She brought instant relief—not just for my wife, but for me too. With her support, I was able to rest and reset, and return fully present for the rest of labor.
Justine didn’t take over—she partnered with me. She elevated the experience for both of us, offering encouragement and guidance. She helped us stay close to our birth plan, pointing out and highlighting the meaningful moments, and even snapped photos during the most intense parts. We felt truly cared for.
Next time (God willing), we’ll absolutely hire a doula again— Justine will be our first choice but I know we’re in good hands with anyone from her team.
