From the moment I found out that me and my husband were expecting our first baby, I knew that I would need someone to help me and my partner to navigate the complexity of labor and delivery topic.Although it was my idea from the very beginning, there was no a single day when my husband was sceptical or hesitant of it. Instead, it was really freeing for him to learn that there is an option to have another person come in and be with us in the delivery room, someone who has experience and knowledge. I, on the other hand, was looking for another female figure who I can trust and be open about my fears of upcoming life-changing event and who can be my "advocate" in that room. We started our search right away, and talked to two or three different doulas at that time, but no one made us feel confident. Then, we found out Patty. I think, it was a match at first glance as she was able to decrease the stress towards us just from the first conversation. Patty appeared to be knowledgeable and talked us through everything that is wrapped into the process of having a child, her role in it, options for pain management, and much much more. Then, she came in to our house with even more suggestions and practical recommendations so that we could prepare ourself for a big day. Needless to say that I could not now imagine being in the delivery room without Patty. When nurse was recommending the things we though did not make sense, she really broke it down so that we could make educated decisions. She not just took care of me, but my husband as well. She was just instrumental from the moment my contractions started and made sure we both were comfortable and calm when my doctor said that I would need a C-section because my baby did not tolerate the vaginal birth. I could not be more thankful for all the support and care I and mu husband received from the birth doula, and I definitely can say that hiring Patty was a right decision we never regretted so far.
