My husband and I just welcomed our first child into the world with Sarah at my bedside. When we found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted a doula to have extra support, someone to advocate for my wants/needs when I was unable and someone to help guide my husband during the labor process to best support me. Sarah did all that AND more.
Originally my husband was on the fence if having a doula was necessary, but knew it would make me feel better so he was on board. After our daughter was born one of the first things he said to me was that hiring Sarah was a good call, he felt so much better with someone else on our team especially since I had a very hard labor for the first 7 hours. Sarah helped him with pressure points, position suggestions, she was always by our side asking questions related to my care as things changed throughout labor. It gave me such peace of mind knowing she was there and advocating for me because I could hardly remember my own name at the time and my husband was busy tending to my physical needs.
I ended up getting an epidural after 7 hours, 7 cm dilated and I was able to get some relief and come back to reality for pushing and the birth of our daughter. Once I was at that point it was like I was in a room with a friend having Sarah there coaching me through pushes with my doctor and nurses, giving me positive encouragement.
10/10 I would hire Sarah again in a heartbeat. She put my mind at ease during easily one of the most difficult days of my life. We just had our postpartum visit and it was so fun to get together again!
