Testimonial for Kathleen Wilson
On a recommendation from friends, we hired Kathleen in mid-24' for our first child. Without a doubt she was the difference between my wife having a positive experience and a traumatic one. I am a Medical Doctor practicing Emergency Medicine and am familiar with how quickly decisions are made and consent can be manufactured. My wife and I wanted the safety net of a hospital birth without the risk of unnecessary medical intervention. This is a tightrope to walk even for someone like me. Initially we hired Kathleen to outsource that walk so I could focus on supporting my wife. Kathleen did this wonderfully and so much more.
From the start it was obvious that she was an expert and had many years of experience. Her priority was understanding our values/goals so that she could be an effective patient advocate. During the birth, Kathleen and Fiona stayed in the Labor and Delivery room with us for around 48h. There were several complications and decisions to be made along the way. The process was difficult, and I can confidently say that without her advocacy we would have been pushed into an unnecessary cesarean section. At one point my wife was so tired/uncomfortable that she nearly broke. Kathleen immediately noticed and called a 'timeout' to bathe her, get some nutrition, and reset for the final push. This is just one example of probably twenty instances where she made an outcome changing intervention during the delivery.
As a physician I have a ton of respect for the medical knowledge she has. She reads, knows the literature, and can have conversations on a peer level with the physicians. Most importantly, however, she is a uncompromising patient advocate. She is extremely socially savvy and able to advocate for your wishes through shift changes with different physicians, nurses, personalities, and practice types. We will absolutely be hiring Kathleen again with our next pregnancy and I strongly recommend her for anyone considering it.
