When my wife began having contractions, we felt ready for what was coming. Rebecca had walked us through our birth preferences and what all of the different options and decisions would mean on the day. My wife had read plenty of books, and I had taken in a few chapters myself. We spent our first evening of contractions in constant communication with Rebecca from afar - no matter how late at night we messaged she was there with response. The next day Rebecca came over with techniques, tools, and calm energy to help my wife in her early labor. By the time we got to the hospital, it seemed we were right on track and likely to have the baby in the next few hours. Then the labor stalled.
For hours my wife endured contractions while Rebecca and I took turns helping to relieve her back pain. By the middle of the night we were all completely exhausted. It was in those hours when Rebecca became a super hero to us. We were tired and scared, and I can't imagine what we would have done were it just the two of us. Rebecca kept us informed, grounded, and calm. She and I took turns pushing on my wife's hips and back, or slow dancing and moving her through different positions. I was floored with how exhausting it all became. She didn't seem to need to rest at all, despite how many hours we'd all spent working together. Her focus was there on us, helping every step of the way.
Long night and long story short, by the next morning we had a beautiful baby girl. Thanks to Rebecca (and the Park Slope midwives who were great) my wife looks fondly on her birth experience despite it taking ~40 hours. I hate to imagine the experience without Rebecca. She's an absolute champion.
