The best decision we made was having a doula for our birth. Bree specially was an absolute godsend — we have told her this and I will keep repeating myself over and over again: we would not have been able to get through it without her.
I had done everything possible during pregnancy to prepare for a natural unmedicated birth (I mean everything!) so I was (innocently) expecting my birth to be a breeze. Little did we know going into it that my labor / birth experience would take over 45+ hours from the moment I went into labor to the moment we met our baby, I’d have to get transferred to the hospital and get an epidural.
All that to say, my labor experience turned out to be everything we weren’t expecting / hadn’t planned for and Bree was there by our side through it all. She cried with us, she encouraged us, she respected our space while also providing support at the same time and she gave us all the unbiased information we needed to make the best decision for us and our baby. Bree is a wealth of knowledge, compassionate and the best addition to our birth team.
The cherry on top were our birth photos — something we will cherish for a lifetime. Bree captured our birth story from start to end so beautifully.
We will absolutely be using the birth collective for any future baby we have. We cannot imagine going through birth any other way.
