Bethany stepped in as my doula last minute when my doula could not attend my birth due to illness. It was tricky timing as I had just found out I had to go in for an unexpected induction and was feeling quite upset. As soon as we FaceTimed Bethany (just a few mins before we had to leave for the hospital), I got such a good feeling - I could immediately see how warm and nurturing she was. Once induced, I ended up dilating way quicker than expected and Bethany was thankfully able to make it prior to me starting to push so we could connect a bit prior. Immediately, I felt so at ease with her. She came prepared with essential oils which calmed me down before pushing. During the pushing phase, I was told the baby had to come out asap as his heart rate was oscillating too much, and I was very close to needing a c section. With Bethany's positive energy and encouragement, I was able to stay in a zen space and ended up having an amazing experience and the vaginal birth I wanted. I told her after how amazing it was how at ease I felt with her having just met her - especially during such a vulnerable time. Bethany stayed and helped us get situated into our postpartum room and we had such a wonderful transition thanks to her. Though we were initially sad that our wonderful regular doula was not physically able to be at the birth, we ended up being so grateful that our team expanded to include Bethany. You can't go wrong with Bethany as your doula!
