I have had the pleasure of working with Leigh for both of my daughters' births. She coached me and my husband through a medication-free labor, all the way through the pushing stage, before we had to go in for a cesarean. This birth did not go as planned, and Leigh was there to guide us through the many obstacles along the way. We truly would have been so lost without her, and though it did not end the way I had wanted (vaginal birth), I believe Leigh did everything in her power to help advocate for me with hospital staff that had another agenda. We chose to hire Leigh for my second birth as well, knowing that going for a VBAC would make her that much more useful. She was a big help, even from the beginning, recommending hospitals and midwives that would take TOLAC patients. After being induced at 38 weeks, I was even more grateful to have her with us, because I knew for sure this would be a very difficult birth. She was ready to come to the hospital the minute I asked her to, even though it seemed a bit too early, but I wanted her there to help us with tough decisions we were discussing with the midwife team.
She has such a calming presence and really makes you trust her right away. She doesn't push any option, and waits for your lead, but if you want her honest opinion on what she would do, she's happy to give it. This birth was wild in so many ways, and I'm so happy she was there to guide us through it. I'm proud to say that with her help, I was able to have a successful VBAC, and get my golden hour that I didn't get the first time around.
