As a first time mom who is an admitted Google-fiend and prone to getting lost in a research abyss, having Marissa Hathaway and The Lemon Grove on our pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care team was truly pivotal.
My partner and I knew after the first interview that she was perfect for our growing family. She was funny, kind, gave proven science-backed advice and most importantly for us — she did not mince words. She told us when to be concerned, when to give things some spaciousness in the decision-making process and when to let our shoulders go down 10 inches and surrender to reality.
The prenatal appointments and education classes were a joy. We always walked away feeling more secure, relaxed and prepared. Our birth plan felt solid and my partner was armed with an app to track contractions so that we knew exactly when to contact Marissa for go-time. When that time came, she was already in the parking lot of The Birth Cottage when we rolled up, ready to meet our baby.
During labor, Marissa’s counter-pressure was everything — it kept me in the zone and focused. I felt truly held. She was so excellent at helping me with positioning and breath-work that I didn’t even need the nitrous I had in my birth plan. It was my dream birth — completely unmedicated — and Marissa was there every step of the way — from the bed, to the toilet, to the yoga ball, to the Japanese soaking tub and back to the bed (this time with a baby and mac and cheese balls). Her postpartum visit was heartwarming and affirming as well.
The best part for us was the connection we had from day one that continues today. Marissa is always a text message away if we have a question or need a smile.
