I'll start by saying: hiring a doula was the best decision I made for my pregnancy, labor and birth. I ended up with doula Bree from the birth collective and all I can say is that it was meant to be. The stars aligned and I got the right doula for my family and this labor! Throughout the whole pregnancy the team was so responsive and informative. When contractions started they helped me labor at home for as long as possible (about 27/32 hours!). When I got to the birth center I was met with my midwife team, doula Bree and a tens unit! All gamechangers!! I ended up being 6cm dilated and 100% effaced when they checked me. Bree made me feel like an accomplished badass for having done so much work at home. She matched my energy and was there for the intense moments, firm when she needed to be, was a cheerleader the whole way through, kept me informed with each decision, walked me through all of the positions and took photos that I never knew I would be so grateful for. She's also fascinated by all the gross weird birthy things which helped keep it light hearted with some PP complications I experienced. I hope I have her for every birth and I cannot recommend her enough.
