My husband Jack and I knew early on we wanted a doula to attend our birth. Upon meeting Doula Lulu, we knew immediately we wanted her to be by our side during the birth of our first child. Her attention to detail, kindness, compassion, and knowledge eased much of our anxieties. Looking back, and in talking to Jack about our birth experience, we both agree we would not have made it through the birth without Lulu. The birth was long- approximately 44 hours- and ended in an emergency cesarean and our son had to be life-flighted to Bangor EMMC where he stayed in the NICU for 15 days. For those 44 hours, Lulu was right by my side, right by Jack’s side. She was a constant, a force to be reckoned with, a star shining through the pain. She not only took care of me, but she also took care of Jack, she reminded him to take breaks, take a walk, drink water and eat. Time and space had no meaning, but Lulu was there through it all, she held my hand, held my body, and made me dance and laugh. Lulu was my voice when I could not speak, she was my advocate when I could not advocate for myself. After bringing our son home from the NICU, Lulu was one of the first people I wanted our son to meet. She holds such a special place in our hearts, and I consider her part of my family. Lulu goes above and beyond for her clients, and being a doula is what her soul was made for. We also had Lulu as a post-partum doula for the “fourth trimester” and it was an incredible thing to have. Her knowledge of herbs, nourishment, nursing, and mental health was incredible. I give Lulu credit for me being so successful in being able to breastfeed my son. She was confident but soft, comforting and hilarious. We extended our post-partum services with Lulu because of how incredible she was. I am so lucky to have had Lulu during my pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. She truly is magical.
